Mary-Tyler Upshaw (she/her/they) is a singing teacher, vocal coach, singer, performer, voice over artist, and music educator. Utilizing a holistic approach, and drawing on a strong background in vocal pedagogy, music theory, and music education.
Trained at the renowned Shenandoah Conservatory of Music where she studied Vocal Performance and Salisbury University where she also received a Masters in Education. After a vocal injury stalled her full-time performance career she ventured into teaching privately. While still performing several times a year she can be heard on the Grammy® winning recording of Britten's War Requiem under the baton of Robert Shafer and seen in broadcasted productions with the Washington National Opera.
She trains, and mentors singers of all levels, coaches in several styles and ages, coaches teachers, speakers, performers and choirs. She is experienced teaching students through differentiation of learning styles and students with non traditional needs. A certified music teacher, she employs the Full Voice and Royal Conservatory of Music curriculums for her voice students.
